A major administrative milestone has been reached in Assam as the state wraps up the initial data collection phase for upcoming demographic exercises. The self-enumeration campaign for Census 2027 successfully achieved a 95.42 percent completion rate across all 35 districts. Official figures show that a total of 12,20,536 households actively took the initiative to submit their required details during this designated window, demonstrating widespread civic participation and public awareness across the region.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Welcomes Milestone
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the public response, describing the high completion numbers as a new benchmark for the state. In a statement shared on social media, he thanked residents for their enthusiastic involvement and for taking out time to provide accurate information. He noted that the impressive turnout highlights the deep sense of ownership citizens feel toward this vital national undertaking. Meanwhile, financial backing for these extensive administrative operations continues to roll out nationwide, with authorities having previously allocated substantial funds to support states and union territories under Census 2027 financial provisions.
Transitioning to the Next Phase of Enumeration
Following the successful conclusion of the digital self-reporting phase, state leadership has urged residents to maintain the same level of cooperation for the upcoming field operations. The Chief Minister stressed that public backing is essential as officials work collectively to build a comprehensive and accurate administrative record for the state. Officials noted that sustaining this momentum will ensure smoother data validation as field workers begin direct interactions with households.
Director of Census Operations Announces Field Schedule
Director of Census Operations for Assam, Biswajit Pegu, formally announced the completion of the self-enumeration period during a press conference held at the directorate headquarters on Monday. He expressed gratitude to local residents for their cooperation throughout the self-reporting window. Following this milestone, the next major stage of the demographic exercise, known as the Houselisting and Housing Census, officially commenced across Assam on Monday and is scheduled to continue until September 15. During this ongoing phase, trained enumerators are visiting residential units across every district to physically collect and verify required particulars.
