Assam Police have successfully foiled an alleged interstate narcotics trafficking operation by intercepting a luxury vehicle in Cachar district and seizing around 80,000 Yaba tablets with an estimated street value of nearly Rs 16 crore, according to officials. The major drug bust highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to curb the flow of illegal substances across the region.
Operation Executed in Moynagarh
The seizure took place on Sunday in Moynagarh after law enforcement personnel received specific intelligence regarding the transit of a massive narcotics consignment through the district. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, a police team intercepted the luxury vehicle and initiated a thorough inspection of the automobile.
Concealed Inside a Special Compartment
During the search, officers discovered that the illicit drugs were hidden inside a specially constructed secret compartment within the vehicle. Authorities suspect that the consignment originated in Mizoram, passed through Cachar, and was intended for delivery in another state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation on social media, posting on August 30, 2026, that @cacharpolice successfully thwarted a major deal and seized 80,000 Yaba tablets from a secret vehicle chamber while apprehending one suspect, praising @assampolice under the banner of #AssamAgainstDrugs.
Arrest and Interrogation Underway
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Shamsul Hussain Laskar, was arrested on suspicion of narcotics transportation. He is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation as investigators attempt to trace the ultimate source and destination of the drugs, while also unravelling the wider interstate network.
