A young university student has lost her life under mysterious conditions at a local homestay situated on the outskirts of Guwahati, prompting law enforcement authorities to take swift action and apprehend a 26-year-old man. The victim, who hailed from the Dharapur locality, was found in a grave condition before being rushed to a medical facility where she ultimately passed away.
Critical State at the Homestay
According to official statements, the incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday at a hospitality establishment named Rudra’s Kitchen located in Garal. The student was initially transported to a nearby health centre when her condition deteriorated sharply inside the rented room. Given the severity of her symptoms, she was subsequently transferred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where attending physicians declared her dead upon arrival. Police identified the detained individual accompanying her as Ashiq Ali.
Distressing Family Revelations
The sequence of events came to light when the victim's father spoke to reporters, stating that his daughter had departed from her residence at approximately 11 pm on Friday to spend the night with Ali. He further disclosed that she had managed to place a phone call to her mother later that night, wherein she tearfully alleged physical assault before her mobile phone became completely unreachable.
Ongoing Police Investigation
An initial physical examination and inquest reportedly uncovered visible injury marks on the deceased student's body, raising immediate suspicions about the narrative surrounding her death. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Guwahati) Bolin Deori stated that the detained companion claimed the victim had hanged herself from a ceiling fan. Law enforcement officials noted that this assertion is being thoroughly examined, and authorities are awaiting the final post-mortem examination report to conclusively determine the precise cause of death while the suspect remains in custody.
