BMW has officially expanded its ultra-luxury portfolio in India by launching the heavily updated iterations of the 7 Series and its pure-electric counterpart, the i7. Setting a major milestone for domestic manufacturing, the German carmaker has initiated local production of the all-electric i7 at its facility in Chennai. This makes India the exclusive location outside of Germany to manufacture this flagship electric luxury vehicle. The updated lineup comprises three distinct models: the petrol-driven 740 M Sport, the electric i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport, and the top-tier, performance-oriented i7 M70 xDrive.
The pricing for this luxury range starts at Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom) for both the petrol-powered 740 M Sport and the entry-level electric i7 eDrive50 variant. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line i7 M70 performance model is priced at Rs 2.65 crore (ex-showroom). Buyers will have to wait a while to get their hands on these machines, as customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in October 2026. The high-profile launch event in India was attended by Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. This refreshed sedan range is primed to lock horns with established ultra-luxury contenders like the Mercedes S-Class, bringing extensive revisions across exterior styling, cabin tech, drivetrains, and rear-passenger comfort.

The signature illuminated kidney grille, known as 'Iconic Glow', has been reshaped into a more angular, squared-off form with horizontal slats. A split headlight layout defines the front, placing ultra-slim daytime running lights (DRLs) higher up, while the main LED headlights reside lower, flanking the revised front bumper. On the sides, the cars receive flush-fitting door handles, leading to a rear end defined by sleeker taillights extending into the boot lid. Inside, the dashboard undergoes a revolutionary transformation inspired by the brand’s Neue Klasse concept. Traditional physical instrument displays have been replaced by a full-width panoramic vision screen running along the base of the front windshield. This is accompanied by a massive 17.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment hub and a dedicated 14.6-inch display for the front passenger. To prevent driver distraction, the passenger screen features smart technology that automatically dims the display if the driver looks toward it. Operating on BMW Operating System X, the system supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Transitioning to the electric variants, the i7 eDrive50 features a dual-motor layout generating 455 HP and 660 Nm of torque. Backed by a 112.5 kWh battery pack, it claims an impressive WLTP-certified driving range of 728 km, marking a substantial 125 km improvement over its predecessor. It completes the 0-100 km/h run in 5.5 seconds with a top speed capped at 210 km/h.
At the pinnacle of the lineup is the i7 M70, which unleashes a whopping 680 HP. Its electric motors put out 1,015 Nm of torque in standard Sport mode, which temporarily escalates to 1,100 Nm when Sport Boost or Launch Control is engaged. This allows the heavy luxury sedan to rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, topping out at 250 km/h. It offers a range of up to 686 km on a full charge. When plugged into a high-capacity 250 kW DC fast charger, the battery can replenish from 10 to 80 percent in a mere 28 minutes.
