Automaker Jeep has rolled out its most accessible automatic SUV option for Indian car buyers, introducing the Compass Sport AT at an ex-showroom price of Rs 21.99 lakh. Timed right ahead of the Diwali shopping rush when consumer demand traditionally surges, this introduction provides an entry point for buyers looking for a premium diesel automatic SUV on a disciplined budget. Prior to this release, the base configuration of the vehicle was offered solely with a manual gearbox at Rs 18.29 lakh.
Pricing Difference and Market Positioning
The addition of the automatic transmission creates a price gap of approximately Rs 3.7 lakh over the entry-level manual version. Paying that premium eliminates the need to step up into much higher trim grades simply to acquire a two-pedal driving setup. By positioning this variant as the brand's lowest-priced diesel automatic, the company aims to capitalize on strong festive vehicle buying momentum across dealership networks nationwide.
Engine Outputs and Transmission Specs
Powering the Sport AT is the established 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor, which generates a maximum output of 170 bhp along with 350 Nm of torque. This powerplant is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission designed to deliver smooth highway cruising and responsive city performance. Power is directed exclusively to the front wheels in this variant, as the all-wheel-drive hardware continues to be reserved strictly for more expensive, higher-spec trims.
Comfort, Electronics, and Safety Equipment
Despite holding base-trim status in the portfolio, the Sport AT comes equipped with a comprehensive list of convenience features. The exterior rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the cabin houses an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Driver conveniences include cruise control, steering-mounted controls, powered outside rearview mirrors, auto hold functionality, dynamic torque steer assistance, and frequency selective dampers to absorb road imperfections.
Optional Accessories and Official Remarks
Buyers who wish to personalize their vehicles can select an optional accessory kit priced at an extra Rs 29,900. This package bundles functional add-ons including an on-board dashcam, ambient interior lighting, mud flaps, all-weather protective floor mats, and distinctive exterior swoosh decals.
Kumar Priyesh, Business Head at Stellantis India, noted that the model has built a reputation on authentic capability, signature styling, and driving poise. He said, “By bringing the 9-speed automatic transmission to the Sport, we are making that experience more accessible than ever before.”
