Commercial drivers across Uttar Pradesh are set to benefit from a new state-backed transport initiative. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially launched Bharat Taxi on Wednesday, bringing two-wheeler, auto-rickshaw, and cab operators onto a unified platform. Drivers who register on this platform will operate entirely free of commission fees while receiving social security insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh. The initiative seeks to build economic resilience for mobility workers while elevating their day-to-day operating conditions.
Initial Launch Across Four Key Cities and Institutional Tie-ups
The service has commenced operations across Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj. To streamline transit and offer seamless first-and-last-mile connectivity to passengers, agreements have been established with several civic and transit authorities. Key partners include the Lucknow Metro, the local police department, and Lucknow Airport. These integrations are designed to facilitate smooth transfers between major transit terminals and local city destinations.
Zero Commission Structure and Social Protection
Addressing the launch, the Chief Minister remarked that commercial drivers historically lacked access to structured welfare frameworks. Under the zero-commission policy, drivers will retain their entire fare earnings without platform deductions. Emphasizing the mental peace that institutional backing provides, Adityanath noted, "When a driver receives a guarantee of social security, a sense of safety and peace comes to their mind." He added that such safeguards empower drivers to perform their duties with greater responsibility and dedication.
Lessons from Mahakumbh Transit Management
Highlighting real-world mobility solutions, the Chief Minister cited the logistical management during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025. During that mega event, young bike riders played an essential role in ferrying devotees directly to the Sangam banks. Their agile operations across railway hubs, airport corridors, and pilgrimage sites ensured rapid passenger movement without overburdening the primary road grid.
Expanding to Rural Transit and Job Creation
Looking ahead, Chief Minister Adityanath directed Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh to adapt the Bharat Taxi operational blueprint for rural bus operations. Extending this framework to countryside routes is expected to generate significant self-employment opportunities for rural youth. The government aims to balance driver welfare with modernized public transport, with plans to scale the initiative across more territories in upcoming phases.
