Yamaha Motor India has officially introduced its first high-performance electric scooter, the Aerox-E, to the Indian market. Priced at ₹2.82 lakh (ex-showroom), this new model is the electrified sibling of the highly popular Aerox 155. It aims to deliver a striking balance between aggressive sporty styling, high-speed capabilities, and everyday electric vehicle practicality. This introduction represents a significant move by the manufacturer to capture the premium end of the rapidly growing EV segment in India.
Aggressive Sporty Design and Dimensions
The Aerox-E retains the iconic design language of its petrol-powered sibling, utilizing the signature Heart-Shaking Speedster design philosophy. It stands out on the road with its twin LED headlamps, sharp aerodynamic body lines, prominent X motif, and aggressive posture. Looking at the physical dimensions, the electric scooter measures 1980 mm in length, 700 mm in width, and 1150 mm in height. While maintaining these proportions, the wheelbase has been slightly extended to 1360 mm to accommodate the new powertrain. Due to the addition of batteries and electrical components, the scooter weighs 139 kg, which is exactly 13 kg heavier than the ICE counterpart. Additionally, the underseat storage space has been reduced to 15 liters to make room for the battery pack. Visually, it is equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels, wide tires, DRLs, and a 3D LED taillight at the rear, all wrapped in a premium white color scheme accented with blue highlights.
Smart Technology and Safety Features
Yamaha has packed the Aerox-E with high-end tech to appeal to tech-savvy commuters. The dashboard features a 5-inch color TFT display that offers seamless Bluetooth connectivity through the Y-Connect app. This system enables riders to access turn-by-turn navigation, music controls, and various vehicle diagnostics directly on the screen. The scooter also includes a smart key system, a dedicated USB charging port, and a reverse mode to assist with parking in tight spots. Riders can choose from three distinct riding modes: Eco, Standard, and Power, depending on their performance and range requirements. For safety, the Aerox-E is equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, supported by single-channel ABS and a traction control system to ensure maximum stability and stopping power even at higher speeds.
Performance, Battery, and Charging
At the heart of the Aerox-E is a powerful 9.4 kW motor that generates an impressive 12.6 bhp of power and 48 Nm of torque. This powertrain allows the scooter to reach a claimed top speed of 95.5 kmph. Energy is supplied by a dual-battery setup consisting of two removable 1.5 kWh battery packs, bringing the total capacity to 3 kWh. Each individual battery pack weighs 13 kg. Notably, the scooter is capable of operating on just a single battery if needed, though this will result in a temporary reduction in overall performance. Charging both batteries from empty to full takes approximately 6 hours and 20 minutes. Under standard test conditions, the Aerox-E offers an IDC certified range of 117 km on a single full charge, positioning it as a strong competitor against other high-performance electric scooters like the Ather 450X and TVS X.
