A live-in couple was left injured after a gun went off during a heated dispute in Danapur, Bihar, police said. The shooting broke out late on Monday night in the area under Rupaspur police station, after an argument over a third person's presence in the relationship spiralled from a war of words into gunfire within minutes.
A dispute over a third person turns violent
According to police, the injured woman had been living in a live-in relationship with a man identified as Rahul Kumar. Tensions in the relationship grew after another man, Vinayak Singh, entered the picture. On Monday night, an argument broke out between Rahul Kumar and Vinayak Singh, which quickly escalated first into a scuffle and then into an exchange of gunfire. Both Vinayak Singh and the woman were hit by the bullets fired during the clash.
Both rushed to hospital, out of danger
As soon as word of the shooting reached them, Rupaspur police station officers rushed to the spot and got both the injured taken to a private hospital in Danapur, where they are currently being treated for their gunshot wounds. Doctors monitoring the pair said their condition is presently stable and that they are out of danger.
Rahul Kumar detained, probe underway
Police have taken Rahul Kumar into custody and are questioning him. So far, investigators have not been able to establish who actually fired the shot or what exactly triggered the confrontation. Officers said they are gathering evidence from the scene, a forensic team has been called in, and footage from CCTV cameras in the vicinity is being examined. Police said all angles of the case, the live-in relationship, the argument between the two men, and the precise circumstances that led to the firing, are being looked at together to piece the full picture of that night.
