The persistent problem of water drainage in Alinagar, located within the Mughalsarai assembly constituency of Chandauli district, continues to cause massive hardships for local residents. A few days ago, District Magistrate Chandra Mohan Garg personally visited the area to inspect the ground realities and assess the situation firsthand. During that inspection, several drains were found choked, and stagnant water was visible across multiple streets. The District Magistrate had strictly instructed the concerned officials to immediately clean the drains, fix the drainage system, and provide much-needed relief to the public. However, when a ground reality check was conducted in the area following the District Magistrate's inspection, it was revealed that virtually nothing had changed on the ground. Water continues to remain stagnant in numerous streets of Alinagar, causing immense distress to the local population.
Stagnant Wastewater And Health Hazards
According to local residents, the water accumulated in the streets is not merely rainwater, but a mixture of overflowing foul-smelling wastewater from clogged drains. This has resulted in a pervasive stench across the locality, accompanied by a growing risk of waterborne diseases and infections. A local resident, Lal मोहम्मद, shared that water has been openly accumulating in the area for roughly fifteen days. Due to the complete absence of a proper drainage outlet, residents are facing severe commuting problems. He added that several people riding motorcycles have slipped and fallen into the water due to poor visibility and submerged potholes. He pointed out that while a new drain was constructed, the work was left incomplete, and routine cleaning of the drains is not being carried out. Another resident, Rustom Ali, stated that although some work was done to cover the drain, water drainage remains completely blocked. With roads submerged under water, riding bicycles or motorcycles has become perilous. The primary concern is the safety of school children, as students have to trudge through this contaminated water every day to reach their schools and other destinations.
Widespread Waterlogging Across Multiple Wards
A local resident named Arif expressed frustration, noting that people are forced to wade through this dirty water multiple times a day. He mentioned that wastewater has even seeped into several houses and residential rooms. Locals allege that local public representatives and government officials frequently visit the area, offering assurances that cleaning will be done promptly, but the reality on the ground remains unchanged. Furthermore, Jitendra Prajapati informed that multiple wards in Alinagar are bearing the brunt of severe waterlogging. He specifically highlighted wards number 5, 6, 9, and 10 as being submerged under stagnant water. He stated that despite the authorities being fully aware of the crisis, no effective action has been taken so far.
Unmet Promises And Unanswered Questions
Another local resident, Prince Yadav, voiced strong resentment over the poor sanitation and drainage arrangements. He stated that despite continuous assurances, water refuses to recede from the neighborhood lanes. The current dismal state of Alinagar raises a critical question as to why the drainage issue remains unresolved despite clear directives from the District Magistrate. Citizens, who are forced to commute daily through filthy water, are still waiting for responsible officials to step in on the ground and deliver permanent relief from this grueling waterlogging ordeal.
