The Noida Police from Sector-113 station have busted an unusual burglary ring that targeted locked residential houses during the day and spent the stolen proceeds on lavish restaurant and bar parties at night. The gang was operated by a live-in couple who turned to criminal activities after suffering severe financial losses in their cafe business across Ghaziabad and Noida. Law enforcement officers arrested the couple alongside their associate, recovering valuable electronic items, jewelry, and several lakhs in cash.
From Failed Cafe Venture to Systematic Burglary
According to police investigations, the arrested individuals have been identified as Diwakar, his live-in partner Sonali, and their third accomplice Irfan. Diwakar and Sonali initially ventured into the food and beverage industry by opening a cafe in Ghaziabad. When that business failed to generate expected returns, they relocated their operations and launched another cafe in Noida. However, both commercial attempts collapsed, leaving them with heavy financial debts and no steady income source.
Despite the business shutdown, the couple was unwilling to scale back their expensive personal habits and lifestyle choices. Seeking a quick way to maintain their high spending, Diwakar and Sonali decided to execute burglaries in residential areas. They brought Irfan into their plan to form a structured three-member burglary crew.
Daytime Reconnaissance Led by Live-In Partner
The gang employed a calculated operational strategy, with Sonali taking the lead role in target selection. During daytime hours, Sonali would walk through high-rise residential societies and neighborhoods under the guise of a casual visitor. She closely monitored properties to identify houses that were locked or whose residents were out of town.
Once she identified a suitable vacant residence, Sonali relayed the details to Diwakar and Irfan. The trio would then wait for an opportune moment to break inside the locked house. They focused primarily on easily portable and high-value items, including cash, gold and silver jewelry, laptops, and mobile phones before fleeing the scene unnoticed.
Extravagant Lifestyle Funded by Stolen Loot
Police noted that the group maintained a distinct pattern of behavior. While daytime was dedicated to surveying targets and committing break-ins, evenings were reserved for spending the stolen cash. The trio regularly frequented popular restaurants, pubs, and bars in Noida and the wider National Capital Region, utilizing the burglary loot to fund expensive food, drinks, and personal luxuries.
Stolen Goods and Cash Recovery
Following a series of burglary complaints in the region, Sector-113 police intensified surveillance and deployed technical intelligence to trace the culprits. The investigation culminated in the arrest of all three gang members: Diwakar, Sonali, and Irfan. During search operations, officers recovered stolen mobile phones, a laptop, various pieces of jewelry, and approximately ₹3.5 lakh in cash from their possession.
Ongoing Interrogation and Police Probe
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Noida Manisha Singh stated that interrogations of the three suspects are currently underway. Investigators are working to determine the total number of burglaries committed by this gang across Noida, Ghaziabad, and neighboring regions. Police are also tracking down potential receivers of stolen property to recover additional looted items linked to previous unsolved cases.
