The torrential rains triggered acute waterlogging across multiple neighborhoods, causing immense hardship for local residents and commuters alike. In ward number 68, the roadway directly underneath the Mathani Tal railway overpass went completely underwater, rendering pedestrian movement nearly impossible as people struggled to wade through the deep accumulation.
Waterlogging Near Samrat Choudhary Approach Road
The waterlogged stretch gained significant attention because it falls precisely on the route leading to the in-laws' residence of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Situated barely 200 meters away from his relatives' home, the road witnessed several feet of stagnant water, exposing the gaps in local civic infrastructure. Two-wheeler riders faced harrowing times trying to navigate through the deep pools, with numerous motorcycles and scooters stalling mid-water while slippery road conditions heightened the risk of accidents and falls.
Lifeline for Dozens of Villages Affected
The flooded thoroughfare is not merely a local alley but a vital transit corridor connecting roughly 46 surrounding villages to the main city. Consequently, when rain inundates this stretch, a vast rural and semi-urban population faces severe commuting hurdles. According to local residents, the problem of waterlogging surfaces promptly with even a mild spell of monsoon showers. Residents claim that this dismal situation has persisted for nearly 16 years without any permanent engineering remedy being implemented by the authorities.
Drainage Efforts and Official Inspections
To clear the accumulated water, the Patna Municipal Corporation deployed several water pumps at the site. However, local inhabitants stated that despite deploying these pumps, drainage has been tardy and ineffective. Just a few days prior, local legislator Ratnesh Kumar along with the Patna Municipal Corporation Commissioner had personally inspected the waterlogged spot and discussed potential drainage remedies, yet the scene after Tuesday's rain remained entirely unchanged.
Safety Concerns for Children and Seniors
The biggest worry centers around school children and elderly residents who must navigate these murky, water-filled paths daily. Parents remain anxious as youngsters trudge through the flooded route to reach their schools. Locals are now demanding a permanent infrastructural fix rather than the temporary deployment of water pumps every monsoon season. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has issued heavy rain warnings for various parts of Bihar.
