Travelers using the airport in Darbhanga, Bihar, will soon benefit from affordable food options on the premises, with tea priced at just 10 rupees and samosas available for 20 rupees. This facility will be introduced through the launch of the Udaan Cafe, which is scheduled to open its doors next month in September.
Ministerial Visit and Cafe Launch
Darbhanga Member of Parliament Gopalji Thakur shared that Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu is scheduled to visit Darbhanga in September. During this trip, the Union Minister will review ongoing construction work at the new terminal and inaugurate the completed structures alongside the new Udaan Cafe.
Upcoming Schedule for Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Thakur provided these details following a consultative committee meeting of the Ministry of Civil Aviation held in Mysuru, Karnataka. He noted that following the Civil Aviation Minister's visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to Darbhanga, where he may inaugurate the airport's new terminal building in November.
International Status and Infrastructure Demands
During the meeting, Thakur put forward a formal request to begin preparations for upgrading Darbhanga Airport to international standards. He urged authorities to expedite the necessary infrastructure development, terminal expansion, runway enhancements, and the setup of customs and immigration facilities.
Regional Culture and Operational Updates
Discussions at the meeting also covered installing boards and signage in the Maithili language, expanding passenger amenities, introducing new flight services, enabling night operations, and establishing an air cargo and logistics hub. The MP further demanded that the airport's entrance feature inscriptions in Mithilakshara and that the facility be officially named after poet Vidyapati. Preparations are actively underway to position Darbhanga Airport as a top-tier aviation hub nationwide, with all formalities required for night landings now successfully completed.
