In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Bihar government has reassigned several Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to new postings across the state. Among these changes, 2021 batch officer Sara Ashraf has been entrusted with a key state-level responsibility. She has been appointed as the Director of Food Processing within the Bihar Industries Department. Prior to this new appointment, she was discharging her duties as the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) in Supaul district.
From Varanasi to Mumbai
Born on May 4, 1994, Sara Ashraf hails from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. She pursued her higher education in Mumbai, where she earned an Honors degree in Political Science from Mumbai University. Her dedication led her to clear the UPSC examination, securing a place in the 2021 batch of the IAS, which subsequently placed her in the Bihar cadre.
Administrative Journey in Bihar
Sara Ashraf began her professional journey in the Muzaffarpur district, where she served as an Assistant Collector, gaining a deep understanding of the intricacies of district administration. During her tenure there, she also handled independent charges as BDO and CO for the Bochahan block. Following her stint in Muzaffarpur, she was posted to Gaya district, where she served as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDO/SDM) for the Sherghati sub-division. Since April 20, 2025, she had been serving as the DDC-cum-CEO of Supaul district, where she worked actively to accelerate various development projects.
Priorities and Challenges Ahead
Taking on the role of Director in the Industries Department brings a new set of challenges for Sara Ashraf. Her primary responsibility in this role will be to provide a significant boost to agro-based industries across Bihar. Additionally, she will be focused on streamlining the establishment of new food processing units within the state. Implementing policies that empower the agricultural sector and work towards increasing the income of farmers in the region will be central to her official mandate in this new position.
