A administrative drive to clear illegal land encroachments in Bihar's Motihari district turned violent when local residents launched a heavy attack on the visiting police and civil administration team. The confrontation took place in Khan Pipra village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Fenhara police station. A crowd pelted stones at the officers, resulting in injuries to seven police personnel, including a female officer. Demonstrators also vandalized two police vehicles present at the spot, causing heavy damage and spreading panic across the locality.
Re-Encroachment Drives Tensions in Khan Pipra
The dispute stems from a piece of public land in Khan Pipra village that had been illegally occupied. Local authorities had previously cleared the site around two months ago in a full-scale eviction drive. However, after the initial clearance, several villagers re-occupied the land and set up unauthorized structures once again. Upon learning of the renewed encroachment, officers from the Fenhara police station arrived at the location accompanied by an administrative squad and bulldozers to demolish the structures, triggering immediate resistance from the gathered villagers.
Allegations of Police Push Escalated Violence
The situation escalated rapidly after local residents accused the police force of misbehavior during the operation. Villagers claimed that a police officer pushed a local woman while attempting to execute the demolition. This allegation provoked intense anger among the onlookers, transforming peaceful resistance into violent rioting. The mob surrounded the administrative personnel and began pelting stones from all directions, catching the force off guard and injuring multiple officers before reinforcements could arrive.
Officer Hospitalized as Mob Targets Vehicles
Seven police personnel sustained injuries in the barrage of stones thrown by the crowd. Among them, a female police personnel suffered severe injuries and was immediately evacuated to the nearby Community Health Centre (CHC) in Madhuban for urgent medical attention. The violent crowd also turned their rage onto the official vehicles parked near the demolition site, smashing windshields and damaging the bodywork of two police vans before officers secured the area.
Police Superintendent Orders Strict Action, Two Arrested
Following the clash, Motihari Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat issued strict directives to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the assault on law enforcement officers. An official FIR has been registered at the Fenhara police station against identified rioters. Acting swiftly, police teams have already arrested two attackers linked to the stone-pelting, while coordinated raids remain underway across surrounding areas to apprehend the remaining suspects.
