A violent confrontation broke out between law enforcement officers and armed criminals in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar when a police raiding team came under heavy gunfire. The incident occurred in the Jajuar Outpost area under Katra police station during an operation to arrest a key suspect involved in an abduction case. As officers closed in on the hideout, the criminals opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate with warning shots. Taking advantage of the chaos, the gang managed to escape after snatching a motorcycle from a passerby at gunpoint, triggering a high-level police investigation and a district-wide manhunt.
Sudden Shootout During Kidnapping Case Raid
According to official details, the operation was launched following specific intelligence received by the local police regarding the whereabouts of Uttam Rai, a wanted suspect in the kidnapping of an Intermediate female student. Acting on the tip-off, a dedicated police squad moved to conduct a search operation at Chainpur Gachi in the Jajuar Outpost area. However, as soon as the raiding team approached the suspected hideout, Uttam Rai and his accomplices spotted the personnel and immediately unleashed a volley of bullets towards them without warning.
The police team quickly took defensive positions and responded with counter-firing to neutralize the threat. An intense exchange of fire ensued for a brief duration. Despite the prompt retaliation by law enforcement, the criminals took advantage of the surrounding terrain and vegetation to evade capture. The suddenness of the assault enabled the armed group to break through the police perimeter before reinforcements could fully secure the vicinity.
Gunpoint Bike Snatching and Area Cordon
While making their escape, the fleeing criminals demonstrated extreme audacity by ambushing an unsuspecting commuter on the road. Armed with firearms, the gang intercepted a passerby, held him at gunpoint, and robbed his motorcycle. The suspects then mounted the stolen bike and sped away from the location. Following reports of the encounter, City Superintendent of Police Mohibullah Ansari arrived at the scene alongside additional forces to personally assess the situation and direct the ongoing investigation.
City SP Mohibullah Ansari issued strict instructions to establish security checkpoints across the district and conduct rigorous vehicle searches along all exit routes. Specialized police units have been deployed to raid multiple potential hideouts where the gang might seek shelter. At the confrontation site, forensic and investigative teams gathered crucial evidence left behind by the fleeing suspects. The seized items include live cartridges, a mobile phone, a portable Wi-Fi device, and other personal belongings that are now undergoing technical analysis.
Extensive Criminal Record of Uttam Rai
Briefing media personnel on the criminal background of the primary accused, City SP Mohibullah Ansari stated that Uttam Rai is a habitual offender with a long history of violent crime. He is wanted not only in Muzaffarpur but also in neighboring districts including Sitamarhi and Darbhanga. In February of this year, a case was registered at the Jajuar Outpost involving the abduction of a young woman traveling in a four-wheeler, in which Uttam Rai was identified as a key perpetrator.
Official records reveal that more than 13 serious criminal cases are registered against Uttam Rai across various police stations in Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Sitamarhi. These charges encompass grave offenses such as attempt to murder, extortion, illegal arms possession, and kidnapping. Senior police officials confirmed that coordinated raids are being conducted continuously across multiple locations to apprehend Uttam Rai and his associates at the earliest.
