Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's spy thriller 'Alpha' has released in theatres today. The film's momentum was already visible before release itself, with advance bookings crossing 89,000 tickets, meaning the makers earned crores of rupees even before the film hit the big screen.
Two women-led films go head to head at the box office
'Alpha' isn't having a solo run at the box office. While Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's spy thriller is the main attraction in cinemas today, it is facing stiff competition from Huma Qureshi's film 'Baby Do And Die', directed by Nachiket Samant. This has set up an interesting clash between two women-centric films releasing on the same day.
AR Rahman wishes the team
Veteran composer AR Rahman took to his social media handle to wish Alia Bhatt and the entire team of 'Alpha'. He wrote that he sends heartfelt wishes to Alia Bhatt and the whole team of Alpha. In the same post, he also tagged Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Sharvari, Yash Raj Films and director Shiv Rawail.
Uday Chopra behind the story
The story of 'Alpha' has been written by Uday Chopra, the younger brother of producer Aditya Chopra and a former actor. The story credit for Uday Chopra appears in the film's teaser as well as its official credits, and it has generated considerable buzz on social media.
Censor board ordered several changes
Before the Central Board of Film Certification, the CBFC, granted the film a UA certificate, the makers had to make certain changes. The scene appearing at the 25th minute and 49th second of the film was replaced with alternate shots. A scene showing multiple stabbing at 1 hour, 36 minutes and 41 seconds was slightly trimmed. Besides this, the censor board had directed the removal of a swear word used at the 35th minute and 53rd second, and a change to a scene at the 38th minute and 12th second. Only after these changes did the film get clearance.
Release date pushed multiple times
'Alpha' was originally scheduled to release in theatres on 25 December 2025, on the occasion of Christmas. Later, its release was postponed to 17 April 2026. However, the makers then pushed the film's release further ahead. After several changes and delays, the film has finally arrived in theatres today.
