Legal protection has arrived just in time for director Nitesh Tiwari's cinematic epic Ramayana, scheduled to arrive in cinemas this Friday on November 5 during Diwali festivities. Produced under the banner of Namit Malhotra's production venture, the film carries massive audience expectations. Anticipating widespread threats of unauthorised distribution, the production house approached the judiciary and secured significant relief against piracy networks.
Interim Injunction Against Unauthorised Distribution
Taking decisive action in favour of the filmmakers, the Bombay High Court issued an interim order explicitly prohibiting the illegal recording, digital uploading, and unapproved online streaming of the movie. The judicial directive extends across unidentified individuals as well as digital platforms, instructing them to curb any infringement of copyright protections. The order takes effect immediately, safeguarding the project ahead of its November 5 worldwide theatrical launch.
Directive to Digital Intermediaries and Web Hosts
Hearing the petition filed by Godpower Media Private Limited, Justice Madhav Jamdar mandated swift compliance from intermediaries. The court directed that upon receiving formal notifications from the production entity, social media platforms and internet service providers must remove the infringing material without delay. Justice Madhav also asked the company to identify and flag the specific web links and websites actively circulating unlicensed snippets or footage belonging to the film.
Comprehensive Protection for Intellectual Property
In its petition, Godpower Media Private Limited established that it retains complete copyright and commercial exploitation rights for the film across India and international markets. The company sought judicial intervention to safeguard all artistic components connected to the title, including the script, character depictions, visual footage, musical compositions, lyrics, and master sound recordings.
Breach of Screening Confidentiality Triggers Court Action
The plea highlighted that strict confidentiality agreements were enforced during exclusive preview screenings of the production. Despite such safeguards, unauthorized individuals managed to secretly record footage from both trailers and upload them onto online forums. Producers expressed genuine alarm that if confidential material could be compromised prior to release, theatre recordings could easily be circulated across the internet once the movie hits cinemas, posing severe financial consequences.
