As the production of Saajan was nearing total completion, the film's theatrical release date had already been locked in and announced to the trade. One morning, lyricist Sameer Anjaan was having breakfast with the legendary composer duo Nadeem-Shravan. During their casual conversation at the breakfast table, an idea struck Sameer Anjaan that the movie ought to feature a signature love track incorporating the film's title, Saajan. Intrigued by the suggestion, composer Nadeem encouraged Sameer to share any lines he might have in mind.
Without hesitation, Sameer Anjaan recited the opening hook line: Dekha Hai Pehli Baar, Saajan Ki Aankhon Mein Pyar. Captivated by the inherent warmth and melody of the phrase, Nadeem immediately got to work. Within a mere 5 minutes, Sameer penned the full lyrics, while Nadeem-Shravan crafted the melodic composition on the spot. In less than 300 seconds, one of Bollywood's most celebrated romantic compositions was officially born.
Producer Reluctance and the 24-Hour Ooty Shoot
With the fresh recording completed, Nadeem eagerly called film producer Sudhakar Bokade to share the exciting news. However, producer Sudhakar Bokade expressed immediate hesitation. He reminded the composers that principal photography was finished, post-production was wrapped, and the release date was firmly scheduled, leaving zero room or time for an extra song sequence.
Undeterred by the logistical barriers, Nadeem-Shravan remained convinced of the song's potential to elevate the entire project. When the producer pointed out the tight dates and busy schedules of the lead cast, Nadeem personally took on the responsibility of securing dates from Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Nadeem promptly presented the track to Salman Khan, who fell in love with the melody instantly and agreed to shoot without delay. The very next day, producer Sudhakar Bokade, director Lawrence D'Souza, and the entire production unit traveled to Ooty. Demonstrating remarkable professional discipline, lead stars Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit wrapped up the complete video shoot for Dekha Hai Pehli Baar within just 24 hours.
Cast Remuneration and Salman Khan's Winning Streak
Saajan brought together three of the biggest stars of the era: Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Madhuri Dixit. Regarding actor compensation for the project, Madhuri Dixit received a fee of Rs 12 lakh, while her co-star Sanjay Dutt was also paid Rs 12 lakh. Actor Salman Khan, who played a central role in the romantic triangle, received Rs 11 lakh for his work in the film.
