Director Nitesh Tiwari's highly anticipated cinematic saga Ramayana is gearing up for a massive international theatrical presence. The epic production is scheduled to release simultaneously in Indian theaters and across China in November 2026. To engage Chinese moviegoers effectively, the project is being promoted under a specialized international title. In the Chinese market, the feature will be distributed under the name Ramayana The Legend of the Prince. This global launch strategy aims to expand the film's international footprint significantly while leveraging the commercial potential of the Chinese box office for Indian cinema.
Weibo Announcement Details and Film Runtime
Global studio Sony Pictures is handling the distribution of the project in China. Details regarding the official Chinese title and release schedule were published by Sony Pictures on the Chinese social network Weibo. Screenshots of the official update quickly circulated across digital platforms. The release schedule indicates that the film is set to open in Indian theaters on November 8, 2026. Additionally, the feature's total duration has been outlined as 166 minutes, which equals approximately 2 hours and 46 minutes of screen time.
Marketing Nitesh Tiwari's Track Record After Dangal
In promoting the film throughout China, Sony Pictures is anchoring its campaign around director Nitesh Tiwari's proven box office history in the region, specifically highlighting his landmark directorial work Dangal. Originally released in India toward the end of 2016, the Aamir Khan starrer arrived in Chinese theaters in May 2017 and achieved unprecedented commercial milestone records. Dangal generated approximately 1200 to 1300 crore rupees from the Chinese box office alone. The distributor aims to capitalize on Tiwari's established brand recognition among Chinese audiences to build anticipation for the new project.
Leveraging Sony Pictures' Distribution Momentum in China
The theatrical prospects for Ramayana in China are further supported by Sony Pictures' recent distribution momentum in the territory. The studio recently saw major theatrical success with Spider-Man Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland. By the first week of August 2026, that release had accumulated approximately 185 million dollars, equivalent to around 1550 crore rupees, in Chinese box office receipts. The superhero feature delivered a 121 million dollar opening over its first five days and retained the top spot in its second weekend by adding 29 million dollars. This robust network infrastructure provides a strong baseline for the upcoming mythological release.
Ensemble Cast and High-Profile Musical Collaboration
Under Nitesh Tiwari's direction, the cinematic adaptation brings together a prominent ensemble cast. Alongside central leads Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, the project features Sai Pallavi, Chetan Hansraj, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, and Vivek Oberoi in key roles. The production has also assembled a high-profile musical team, combining the talents of Indian composer A.R. Rahman with Hollywood film score composer Hans Zimmer. Combining an ensemble performance lineup with international scoring, the feature will premier globally in theaters in November 2026.
