Priyanka Chopra's film Varanasi is generating plenty of buzz these days, and that has fans revisiting the films from her back catalogue that are still easily available to stream on various OTT platforms. What stands out is that across a 23 year career, during which she has shared the screen with almost every big Bollywood hero, Priyanka Chopra has delivered three back to back blockbusters with only one actor. One of those three films happens to be a remake of a flop film starring Mithun Chakraborty from 1990.
From Tamil Cinema To A Bollywood Debut
Priyanka Chopra began her acting career in 2002 with the Tamil film Thamizhan. A year later, in 2003, she made her Bollywood debut opposite Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy. Over the following 23 years, she went on to work with almost every major superstar, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Yet she never managed three consecutive hits or blockbusters with any of them. That feat belongs to just one actor, Hrithik Roshan, with whom Priyanka Chopra delivered three blockbusters in a row.
Krrish: Playing The Superhero's Love Interest
The Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra pairing first clicked in the 2006 film Krrish, which turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office. Hrithik Roshan played the superhero, while Priyanka Chopra played his love interest, who was also a journalist. According to Box Office India, the film was made on a budget of around Rs 40 crore and went on to earn Rs 126 crore. Krrish was counted among the most expensive films of that era, and audiences took to its science fiction story. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the film is currently available to stream for free on ZEE5, besides being available on Netflix and Prime Video.
Agneepath: A Flop Reborn As A Hit
Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan took on the lead roles in 2012's Agneepath, which also turned out to be a blockbuster. Sanjay Dutt played the villain in the film. Interestingly, this was a remake of the 1990 Agneepath starring Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty, a film that had flopped on release. In other words, a story that failed to work in cinemas three decades earlier was turned into a massive hit by Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. Box Office India reported that the film was made on a budget of Rs 58 crore and went on to collect Rs 198 crore. It can be streamed on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Krrish 3: A Third Straight Super Hit Together
Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan teamed up once more for 2013's Krrish 3, which also turned out to be a blockbuster. The film was a sequel to 2006's Krrish and also featured Vivek Oberoi and Kangana Ranaut in key roles. Directed once again by Rakesh Roshan, the film had a budget of around Rs 100 crore and went on to collect a massive Rs 393 crore at the box office. Krrish 3 can be watched on Prime Video and Netflix, while its Telugu version is available on Sony LIV.
