Acclaimed actor Kangana Ranaut is set to step back into the world of cinematic terror with an upcoming feature film. Teaming up with actor and filmmaker Rana Daggubati, the actor will headline a brand-new project titled Scary Picture. The formal revelation took place at the HorrorCon India 2026 convention, where Daggubati took the stage to announce the production, confirming Ranaut as the lead protagonist of the suspenseful project.
Grand Announcement Made at HorrorCon India 2026
Rana Daggubati surprised cinema enthusiasts attending HorrorCon India 2026 by sharing early details of his new enterprise. During his address, Daggubati explained that Scary Picture is designed purely within the horror genre. He confirmed that filmmaker Ravi Babu, who happens to be a close friend of his, has been brought on board to helm the directorial responsibilities. Daggubati noted that this was the very first official unveiling of the film on a public platform. Complementing the stage announcement, Kangana Ranaut took to social media on Sunday, sharing a promotional video to inform her followers about the upcoming production.
Telugu Director Ravi Babu to Make Hindi Feature Debut
The upcoming production places seasoned Telugu director Ravi Babu at the steering wheel. Babu began his journey in the film industry as an actor in 1998 before transitioning into filmmaking and directing his maiden feature in 2002. Throughout his directorial career, Babu has developed a distinct reputation for handling suspenseful subjects, primarily focusing on horror, tension-filled thrillers, and dark comedies. In 2025, he returned to acting screens with the project Coffee with a Killer. While Babu has directed numerous well-known horror movies in Telugu cinema, Scary Picture will stand as his directorial debut in the Hindi film space.
Ranaut Revisits the Chilling Territory of Horror Cinema
Venturing into eerie themes is familiar ground for Kangana Ranaut, who has previously engaged with stories centered on the supernatural. Her previous venture into the Hindi horror landscape was the 2009 release Raaz: The Mystery Continues, where she shared the screen with Adhyayan Suman. Later in 2023, she explored supernatural horror on a different canvas by featuring in the Tamil horror-comedy Chandramukhi 2. With Scary Picture, she makes a calculated return to the genre. The film is expected to be mounted in Hindi, though the production team has yet to reveal the official theatrical release schedule and the full supporting cast.
Active Film Slate Ahead for Kangana Ranaut
Beyond this newly announced horror project, Ranaut maintains a busy calendar across different genres. Her most recent screen appearance arrived with Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, a film where she not only portrayed the central character but also managed key production responsibilities. Following its theatrical run, that film is currently accessible to viewers on the digital platform ZEE5. Moving ahead, Ranaut is lined up to appear in the feature Circle and the anticipated follow-up Queen 2, a sequel to her celebrated hit Queen. Industry discussions also point toward her involvement in another horror title, Blessed Be the Evil.
