Bollywood star Salman Khan's youngest brother, Sohail Khan, has spent much of his career being measured against his elder sibling, but a recent appearance on Kunal Kemmu's reality show Alliance turned the spotlight on him for an entirely different reason, an emotional account of a childhood trauma he had carried quietly for years. This is not the first time Sohail's personal life has made news, but this particular disclosure struck a nerve with fans watching the show.
A Strong Start Behind the Camera
Long before he stepped in front of the camera, Sohail built his name behind it. His directorial debut came with the 1997 action thriller Auzaar, which starred Salman Khan alongside Sanjay Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty. The film did respectable business at the box office and established Sohail as a filmmaker worth watching. Building on that momentum, he directed the 1998 romantic drama Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya the very next year, casting Salman Khan opposite Kajol, with Arbaaz Khan and Dharmendra rounding out the ensemble cast. That film went on to become one of the biggest commercial successes of the year and remains counted among the most loved family entertainers of the late nineties even today. Two hits in a row gave Sohail real credibility as a director, and expectations grew that his next move behind the camera would be even bigger. The Actor Who Never Became the Star
Sohail made his acting debut in 2002 with the romantic comedy Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, a film he wrote, directed and produced all at once, while also taking on the lead role himself. Audiences went in curious, but critical reception was mixed once the film released, and it failed to match its box office expectations. As an actor, Sohail's screen presence was constantly weighed against his brother's star power, a comparison that seemed to follow every subsequent release he was part of. Beyond acting, Sohail also stayed active as a producer and filmmaker, but that side of his career struggled to find the success his early directorial hits had once promised. After those first two wins behind the camera, his career graph gradually slid, whether in the director's chair, in front of the camera, or behind a producer's desk running the business side of a film. The comparison with Salman never really let up through any of it, adding a different kind of pressure to everything he attempted next in the industry.
Marriage to Seema Sajdeh, Two Sons and a Divorce
On the personal front, Sohail married fashion designer and entrepreneur Seema Sajdeh in 1998 after being in a relationship for several years. Interestingly, the couple had eloped and married before ever formally registering the marriage on paper. Their first son, Nirvaan Khan, was born in 2000. Roughly a decade later, in 2011, the couple became parents to a second son, Yohan Khan, born through surrogacy. Around 24 years into the marriage, Sohail and Seema filed for divorce by mutual consent in 2022 and separated. Despite the split, the two have continued to co-parent their sons together and have repeatedly spoken about maintaining a warm relationship within the family for the sake of their children.
Childhood Trauma Revealed on Alliance
Sohail Khan and Seema Sajdeh recently appeared together on the reality show Alliance, where they spoke candidly about their relationship, how they have been raising their children, and life after the divorce. During that conversation, Sohail brought up a deeply personal trauma from his childhood, pulling him back into the headlines once again. Sohail Khan said, "When I was young, someone sexually abused me and I kept it bottled up inside for years." He went on to explain that once he became an adult, he told his father, Salim Khan, about it, and his father was struck by how long he had carried that pain alone in silence. Sohail said the abuse was never his fault, yet he still felt ashamed to talk about it for years afterward. That is why he now tells his own children that no matter what happens, they should always come and tell him everything, so that no pain stays buried for years the way his did.
