Bollywood's original He Man Dharmendra was never just a superstar on screen, he was also the strongest pillar holding his family together. His simplicity, warmth and the way he handled relationships were always talked about. Now, nearly seven months after his death, Hema Malini has come forward with a revelation that has caught fans' attention. In a recent conversation, Hema Malini spoke about the last message Dharmendra gave to the entire family before he passed away, and also revealed what matters most to her in life today. During the same conversation, she opened up about her 60 year journey in Hindi cinema, her present day life, her bond with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and whether she plans to return to films.
Dharmendra's Final Message To The Family
During the conversation, Hema Malini revealed the last message Dharmendra left for the entire family before he passed away. According to her, Dharmendra had said:
Be one family, everyone has to stay together. Whatever the work may be, always give importance to family.
In other words, even in his final days, Dharmendra's biggest concern was that the family should stay united after he was gone, and that no member should ever drift apart from the others. Hema Malini now considers this message the most important thing for the family, which is why she keeps repeating that no work matters more than relationships.
Hema Malini Reflects On Her 60 Year Journey In Cinema
Having been part of Hindi cinema for close to 60 years, Hema Malini said she never did films purely to earn money. For her, a good story, strong characters and the audience's love always mattered the most. She said acting was never just a profession for her but a passion, and that is why she managed to hold her place in the hearts of audiences for so long. Speaking about her cinematic journey, Hema Malini said she is happy and grateful to God. She said she stayed connected to people through her dance for so many years. According to her, circumstances in life keep changing, after films she connected with people through dance, and today she is serving people through politics. She described these as three different sides of her life.
Dharmendra, The Father And The Doting Nanu
Talking about Dharmendra, Hema Malini described him as an extremely simple, generous and grounded person. She said that despite achieving such massive stardom, Dharmendra never let go of his simplicity, and he always loved his fans deeply and respected their feelings. Hema Malini said Dharmendra was a loving father, and even more than that, he was an extremely loving nanu. She added that he loved his five grandchildren even more than Esha and Ahana. According to her, Dharmendra gave the children so much love that it is difficult to put into words, and all the children at home still miss him deeply today.
Facing Anger Over Fake News Of His Death
Fake news about Dharmendra's death had surfaced earlier as well. Asked about her anger at the media over it, Hema Malini said:
Why wouldn't we get angry, of course we would be angry. How do you cope when fake news comes out. But that time has also passed, and now that he isn't here, what is there to talk about.
Her answer makes it clear just how painful and difficult that period must have been for the family, with false reports circulating again and again.
Her Bond With Sunny And Bobby Deol
Speaking about her two stepsons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Hema Malini said both of them are very good. She said the entire family is together, and they do not do any kind of publicity, adding that there is a deep bond between them from within. Hema Malini also acknowledged that Dharmendra never liked bringing his personal life out in public.
Will She Return To Films?
When asked whether she would make a comeback in films, Hema Malini answered immediately, saying no, not now. She said she has already done a lot of work in films and worked during cinema's golden era. According to her, she considers herself lucky to have worked through the 1970s and 1980s, but today's era is completely different. Hema Malini said that different kinds of films are being made today too, and she is not saying that is not good, that is good as well, but a golden period comes only once in a lifetime. She did add, however, that if she ever gets a really good role, she would certainly think about it.
Balancing Politics, Family And New Responsibilities
Asked about her priorities in life today, Hema Malini said that as a Member of Parliament, she has a lot of work to handle. Alongside that, household work, spending time with the children and fulfilling her responsibilities as a nani are also part of her life. Hema Malini said God has given her everything, and for that she remains grateful.
