Popular Bollywood comic actor Rajpal Yadav is facing a pivotal test in his legal battle as a long-running check bounce dispute reaches a critical juncture. After the Delhi High Court refused to stay his surrender, the actor approached the Supreme Court seeking urgent intervention. The apex court has granted him temporary relief, but it comes with a steep financial condition that must be met within a tight deadline. Consequently, the next 48 hours are set to decide whether the actor can avoid going to jail.
Supreme Court Hearing and Conditions for Interim Relief
In response to the appeal filed by Rajpal Yadav following the stern stance of the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court took up the matter on Tuesday, 8 September. Providing conditional interim relief, the apex court directed that if the actor deposits an amount of 5 crore rupees into the Supreme Court registry by Wednesday, 9 September, or before the 10 September deadline, he will be exempted from surrendering for the time being.
The court made it explicit that the submission of the 5 crore rupees demand draft serves as the sole condition to hold off his immediate imprisonment. Fulfilling this deposit requirement before 10 September will temporarily safeguard him against surrender. The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing of the case for 15 September, during which further legal proceedings will be conducted based on compliance with the order.

The current legal predicament stems from a financial transaction and check bounce dispute that dates back several years. The Delhi High Court had previously taken a strict view on the matter, denying any further leniency to Rajpal Yadav and directing him to surrender by 10 September without exception.
