Police have made a major breakthrough in a sensational murder case reported from Himachal Pradesh by arresting the second absconding accused from Bihar. The crime took place in Tyaalu village under Faste panchayat of Hamirpur district, where a migrant mechanic was killed following a monetary dispute involving three thousand rupees. The fugitive, identified as Santosh Sahni, was tracked down and captured from Sahni village in Madhubani district of Bihar. Following his arrest, he was produced before a local court, which remanded him to five days of police custody to enable a thorough investigation into the crime. The first accused in the case, Surjeet, was already apprehended earlier and is currently cooling his heels in judicial custody.
The dispute escalated into bloodshed over drinks and financial calculations
According to details shared by the local police, the tragic incident unfolded on the night of October 13 in Tyaalu village. The victim, a migrant mechanic named Digvijay alias Ganguly, was sitting together with his two assistant workers and co-workers, Surjeet and Santosh Sahni. The three men had consumed alcohol together during the gathering. As the night progressed, an argument flared up among them regarding financial accounts and a pending transaction of three thousand rupees. What began as a verbal altercation quickly spiralled out of control into a violent confrontation. Investigators allege that both workers viciously attacked Digvijay with a shovel, inflicting fatal injuries that resulted in his death on the spot. Both suspects fled the scene immediately after committing the crime, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Forensic evidence gathering and swift police action
Upon receiving information about the violent incident, law enforcement officers rushed to the spot and initiated an immediate probe. Police successfully recovered the shovel used in the murder from the crime scene, while a specialized forensic team collected crucial physical evidence to build a watertight case. Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh Thakur stated that police action was swift, leading to the apprehension of local accused Surjeet on the very same day of the incident, while Santosh Sahni managed to give the slip and went into hiding. Police teams maintained a relentless pursuit, ultimately tracing him to Sahni village in Bihar's Madhubani district where a raid was conducted. During the ongoing five-day police remand, investigators are interrogating the suspect to reconstruct the exact sequence of events, ascertain the trigger for the dispute, and determine his precise role in the homicide.
