Fans of the popular courtroom comedy franchise have plenty to look forward to as discussions surrounding Jolly LLB 4 continue to gain momentum. The series, known for its unique characters and engaging storytelling, is reportedly bringing back Arshad Warsi to reprise his role as the sharp-witted lawyer Jagdish Tyagi. According to the latest available details, the fourth installment will not take the narrative forward chronologically, but will instead function as an intriguing prequel directed by Umesh Shukla. While the official title of the movie is yet to be finalized, the project is currently in the final stages of its pre-production phase.
A Change in Directorial Leadership for the Prequel
While the first three films in the franchise were written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, the upcoming fourth chapter will see a notable shift behind the camera. Umesh Shukla, best known for helming acclaimed projects like OMG: Oh My God and 102 Not Out, has taken over the directorial responsibilities for this new venture. Industry reports indicate that the production work is progressing steadily, with expectations that filming will wrap up by January 2027. Despite the active development, details regarding the precise plot setting, filming locations, and the rest of the supporting cast remain under wraps as makers are yet to issue a formal statement.
The Comeback of the Original Jolly
Arshad Warsi first stepped into the shoes of Jagdish Tyagi, affectionately called Jolly, in the 2013 original film which explored the struggles of a lawyer battling a complex legal system while balancing courtroom drama with humor and a social message. Following that, Akshay Kumar took over the lead responsibilities in the second installment and later returned as Jollywar Mishra alongside Warsi in the third film, which brought both characters face to face in the courtroom. With the upcoming fourth movie, the narrative returns its focus to the original protagonist, giving audiences another chance to witness the dynamic that established the foundation of the franchise.
Uncertainty Surrounding Supporting Cast Returns
Over the course of the previous releases, the franchise has built a memorable roster of supporting figures, most notably the judge's role played by Saurabh Shukla, whose witty interventions and moral grounding became a signature element of the series. The original 2013 film also featured Amrita Rao, Boman Irani, Mohan Kapoor, and Sanjay Mishra among its ensemble. It remains unconfirmed whether any of these actors will make a return for the prequel, as the production team has yet to announce the complete casting lineup or clarify whether the new film will replicate the classic courtroom setup of its predecessors.
