Strong Initial Numbers and Negative Word-of-Mouth
Toxic achieved a massive opening day in India with 101 crore rupees, while its worldwide collection touched 145 crore rupees. These initial figures gave the makers immense confidence, but negative reviews and audience anger began pouring in almost immediately after release, triggering a rapid decline in ticket sales. While the film etched its name in Kannada cinema history by securing the biggest opening and ranking as the second-biggest opener of 2026, the overwhelmingly bad word-of-mouth caused its theatrical run to plummet dramatically.
Rapid Box Office Slump and Competition
By the second day, the collections dropped to 37 crore rupees, and by the first Monday, Geetu Mohandas's directorial venture shrank to just 10 crore rupees. Consequently, smaller films like Hanuman Ansh, made on a modest budget of 2 crore rupees, began outperforming Toxic. The theatrical standing weakened further when Mirzapur The Movie arrived in cinemas and outpaced it as well, leaving the big-budget venture struggling for survival.
Heavier Losses Than Adipurush
By its 15th day on 9 September, Toxic generated a meager 60 crore rupees across India, with global collections dropping below 1 crore rupees on that single day. By 10 September, its cumulative domestic collection reached 247 crore rupees, while worldwide earnings crawled to 339 crore rupees. While earning 250 to 300 crore rupees might sound substantial to casual observers, the film required massive returns to justify its reported 500 crore rupee production budget, falling short of its required recovery by roughly 230 crore rupees. In terms of financial loss, this performance lagged even further behind Prabhas's controversial disaster film Adipurush, which had a 550 crore rupee budget against a net collection of around 330 crore rupees, making Toxic look like an even bigger commercial failure.
