Good news has emerged for low-income households and individuals aspiring to purchase their own homes within the Delhi-NCR region. Affordable multistorey flats are set to be constructed in Greater Noida tailored specifically for economically weaker sections and low-income earners. The board of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority has granted formal approval to these residential projects. Alongside this initiative, clearance has also been given to a plan for establishing temporary accommodation facilities for laborers arriving from outside in search of employment.
Land Allocation and Flat Specifications
According to officials, approximately 44,750 square meters of land has been earmarked in Patwari village within Greater Noida West, and roughly 18,000 square meters near Biraundi village in the East zone. Affordable flats measuring approximately 30 to 40 square meters will be developed across both locations. The proposed projects are anticipated to yield around 4,000 to 5,000 flats in total. A comprehensive blueprint detailing the exact number of floors for the residential societies will be formulated subsequently. Provisions have also been incorporated to ensure lift facilities are made available within these apartment blocks.
Provisions for Daily Conveniences
Residents inhabiting these affordable housing communities will not need to travel far to fulfill their daily requirements. The premises will feature provisions for establishing milk and vegetable booths alongside retail shops dedicated to selling everyday essentials. This arrangement aims to ensure that low-income families can access necessary amenities directly within a single residential complex.
Rising Need Amid Expensive Builder Flats
Greater Noida functions as a prominent industrial hub where a substantial volume of laborers arrives from various parts of the country in pursuit of livelihoods. After residing in rented accommodations for extended periods, many such individuals aspire to acquire their own property, yet flats offered by private builders remain considerably expensive relative to their earnings. This exact predicament prompted the initiation of the affordable housing scheme. Procedures gained momentum following a labor agitation witnessed this past April, accompanied by essential directives issued at the governmental administration level.
Temporary Shelters for Migrant Laborers
Immediate living arrangements will similarly be developed for migrant workers arriving in Greater Noida. Toward this objective, land parcels measuring 3,000 square meters each have been identified in Ecotech-6 and Ecotech-11. The Greater Noida Authority will transfer these plots free of cost to the Labor Department. Subsequently, the Labor Department will construct worker shelters at the location under the transit hostel scheme administered by the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. This measure will spare incoming workers from relying on expensive hotels or precarious temporary quarters.
