Railway authorities have implemented stringent crowd management measures at high-volume transit hubs across Mumbai to manage the massive passenger influx ahead of the Diwali and Chhath festive period. With travel demand surging toward northern destinations, ticket counters at five of the busiest railway stations in the metropolis will temporarily halt the issuance of platform passes between November 5 and November 15. The initiative ensures that station concourses and boarding zones remain accessible strictly to passengers holding confirmed travel tickets.
Five Key Mumbai Transit Hubs Under Temporary Curbs
The operational suspension enacted by Central Railway covers Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane, and Kalyan. Because these junctions serve as primary starting points and major stops for long-distance services heading northward, family members accompanying departing passengers often cause severe congestion on platforms. Restricting entry to non-passengers throughout the 10-day window until November 15 aims to preserve orderly foot-traffic corridors and enhance passenger safety throughout the peak holiday period.
Special Exemptions for Vulnerable Passengers
In accordance with Railway Board directives, stations will maintain discretionary allowances so that travellers needing physical assistance are not left stranded. Authorized personnel will issue platform permits in select circumstances to companions of senior citizens, medically unwell individuals, young children, and female passengers who require support carrying luggage or reaching their designated train coaches. This protocol seeks an optimal balance between maintaining station discipline and extending essential care to vulnerable travellers.
Parallel Ticket Bans and Station Measures Across Delhi NCR
Northern Railway has enforced a comparable set of preventive protocols across Delhi to tackle identical crowd pressures during the holiday rush. Platform access permits will remain suspended through November 14, 2026, across five prime stations: New Delhi, Delhi Junction (Old Delhi), Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand विहार Terminal, and Anand Vihar Halt. Authorities have also brought the neighboring Ghaziabad railway station under the purview of this restriction to avoid spillover crowds at intercity boarding platforms.
Cargo Operations and Luggage Handling Temporarily Restricted
Beyond regulating visitor access, Northern Railway has put temporary embargoes on parcel operations across four critical transit centers in the capital network. The affected stations include New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Junction, and Hazrat Nizamuddin. Throughout the designated enforcement phases, outward parcel bookings as well as loading and unloading workflows will face scheduled suspensions. Specific duration brackets have been calibrated individually across each of the four locations to maximize open walking spaces for boarding passengers.
