A fresh political row has erupted in Bihar following Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary's contentious remarks attempting to differentiate between crime and criminal occurrences. Speaking in Begusarai, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor launched a blistering attack against the Chief Minister, while also directing sharp criticism at the electorate. Kishor urged educated citizens to examine the consequences of their voting decisions, arguing that voters got entangled in the divisive politics of caste, religion, and the Modi-Lalu rivalry, thereby electing leaders who provide frequent opportunities for public ridicule.
Prashant Kishor Questions Leadership and Governance Vision
Targeting the administrative capability of the Chief Minister, Prashant Kishor remarked that expectations regarding employment and quality schooling for children are misplaced under the current leadership. He contended that when an administrator fails to grasp basic terminological differences, expecting that person to build an environment suitable for career development and industrial growth is unrealistic. According to Kishor, public entertainment of this nature will inevitably continue under the present setup.
At the same time, Kishor placed substantial responsibility on the voting public. He noted that the Chief Minister did not assume power on his own but was elected by citizens who consider themselves discerning and knowledgeable. He argued that when an individual who failed seventh grade is elected to lead, such unusual definitions are entirely expected. Kishor insisted that rather than blaming the occupant of the office, the voters responsible for placing him there must reflect on their choices.
The Underlying Controversy Sparked by the Chief Minister
The controversy traces its origins to remarks made by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday. Addressing the state's law and order scenario, Choudhary asserted that Bihar experiences no crime, even though sporadic incidents or occurrences may take place. The unusual distinction sparked immediate political outrage across party lines. Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and RJD working president Tejashwi Yadav also condemned the statement, accusing the administration of trivialising grave security concerns.
Legal Action Over Independent MLCs Joining the BJP
Beyond the law and order debate, Prashant Kishor addressed the recent decision of two newly elected independent members of the Bihar Legislative Council to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kishor revealed that the Jan Suraaj Party has already submitted a formal disqualification petition to the Chairman of the Legislative Council. He added that the candidates themselves would submit further representations to the Chairman.
Categorising the switch as a direct breach of constitutional provisions, Kishor stated that legal avenues, including approaching the courts, remain fully on the table. He maintained that the constitutional norms governing independent legislators must be strictly enforced, asserting with confidence that the council memberships of the two individuals will inevitably be revoked.
