A contraction in physical retail demand paired with ongoing movements in currency values kept pressure on precious metals during Tuesday trading. The bullion counter in Delhi recorded a marginal drop in gold rates, while silver prices showed notable resilience by maintaining their prior benchmark levels across back-to-back sessions.
Delhi Bullion Market Records Small Price Correction in Gold
According to local market operators, 99.9 percent purity gold dropped by 200 rupees on Tuesday to settle at 1,49,600 rupees per 10 grams in Delhi. The commodity had concluded the previous trading session on Monday at 1,49,800 rupees per 10 grams. In contrast, industrial white metal remained entirely unchanged, holding firm at 2,27,000 lakh rupees per kilogram for the second consecutive business day. Local jewellers confirmed that these retail quote figures are all-inclusive, covering applicable sales taxes and local levies.
Subdued Pitru Paksha Footfall Drags Down Local Jewelry Uptake
Assessing the primary domestic catalysts behind this price movement, Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst (Commodities) at HDFC Securities, noted, "Fresh weakness in domestic gold prices stems from sluggish retail appetite alongside unsupportive global cues during Pitru Paksha." Gandhi pointed out that customary consumer practices discourage households from purchasing precious metals, jewelry, real estate, or other high-value auspicious assets during this specific period, which inevitably softens store footfall and wholesale bullion replenishment across key consumer hubs.
Global Spot Pricing Shows Cautious Resilience
Overseas bullion desks mirrored a measured tone on Tuesday, with spot gold edging upward to trade near 4,149.44 dollars per ounce, while international silver changed hands around 61.01 dollars per ounce. Commenting on cross-currency factors and broad market conditions, Praveen Singh, Head of Commodities at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, stated, "Spot gold in overseas trade advanced toward 4,151 dollars per ounce as the US dollar and crude oil values softened."
Crude Trajectory and Currency Shifts to Guide Future Trading Range
Singh highlighted that bullion price action will continue taking its direct cues from future trajectories in energy costs and dollar valuations. He noted, "Near-term gold is anticipated to trade within a consolidated range with a mild downward bias as overall risk appetite remains firm." With capital allocations tilting toward higher-risk asset classes, safe-haven bullion is expected to see capped volatility and steady range-bound behavior in the immediate days ahead.
