Farming practices are undergoing a silent revolution in Keshopur Pahadwa village, located under the Jhanjhari development block of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh. Instead of sticking blindly to conventional methods, local cultivators are increasingly embracing organic techniques alongside modern technologies to boost agricultural output. Moving firmly in this direction, a local youth has adopted organic manures and advanced farming methods for his sugarcane fields, successfully reducing overall expenditure while setting the stage for a remarkable harvest.
Relying on Vermicompost and Organic Manures
Progressive farmer Prince Singh shared insights into his agricultural routine, emphasizing that fertile soil is an absolute prerequisite for a thriving sugarcane crop. To enhance soil health naturally, he avoids heavy chemicals and relies instead on well-rotted cow dung manure and other organic inputs. These natural elements help increase organic matter within the soil and sustain its long-term fertility. Specifically, vermicompost and traditional farmyard manure are regularly applied across his sugarcane fields to maintain optimal soil structure and nutrient levels.
Laser Sowing Across Five Bighas of Land
A standout feature of this agricultural setup is the precision sowing method employed. Prince Singh utilized laser-assisted leveling and sowing techniques for his sugarcane, ensuring uniform spacing and optimal depth for every seed. He is currently cultivating sugarcane across approximately five bighas of land. Despite managing a sizable area, the total input cost for the crop remained remarkably low, restricted between 20,000 and 25,000 rupees. Looking at the robust condition of the crops, he anticipates an impressive yield of roughly 80 to 90 quintals per bigha.
Three Years of Consistent Organic Practice
This commitment to chemical-free farming is not a sudden experiment. Prince Singh has been practicing organic agriculture consistently for the past three years. Beyond sugarcane, he applies organic methodologies to his other seasonal crops as well. He firmly believes that regular use of organic fertilizers protects soil vitality, prevents land degradation, and ensures that the earth remains productive for years to come.
Special Sugarcane Varieties and Remarkable Height
For this season's cultivation, he chose two specific sugarcane varieties, designated as 16201 and 14201. According to his field observations, both varieties are exceptionally well-suited to the local climatic conditions and environment of Gonda. Under optimal care, these specific strains can reach impressive heights of 10 to 12 feet. Through the combined benefits of organic soil enrichment and modern agricultural technology, he remains confident of securing an abundant harvest and significantly higher financial returns.
