Animal husbandry is expanding rapidly across both rural and urban parts of Bihar. Alongside milk production, the sale of dung has also started generating good profits for local residents. In Jehanabad district, several entrepreneurs are engaged in large-scale dairy farming, yielding impressive financial returns. While some individuals venture into this sector alone, others choose to run enterprises in partnership with family members. Among them are two brothers, Kapil Deo Yadav and Birendra Yadav, residents of Gyangarh Math in the Ghosi block of Jehanabad district, who have built a successful dairy enterprise through sheer determination.
The Humble Beginning With Only Two Animals
This journey traces back to the year 1971. At that time, Kapil Deo Yadav had just passed his 10th-grade examinations and was searching for a steady source of income. To make ends meet, he started running a private school right in his native village. However, the income generated from the school was quite limited. Meanwhile, Birendra Yadav had made up his mind from the very beginning to pursue animal husbandry. Due to a shortage of funds, he could only purchase a small number of cattle. Birendra Yadav initiated the dairy farming at his home in Gyangarh Math with merely two animals.
Expanding From Two Cattle To A Herd Of 32
While Kapil Deo Yadav continued managing his private school with modest returns, he eventually decided to join hands with his brother to focus entirely on animal husbandry. In the early days, milk was sold at a rate of 3 rupees per kilo. Both brothers resolved to expand the enterprise together. Through consistent hard work and dedication, they also availed themselves of various government schemes, which helped increase their livestock over time. Consequently, the dairy venture that started with just two cows has now expanded to a total of 32 animals.
Managing Expenses And Earning Over One Lakh Rupees
Reflecting on their journey, Kapil Deo Yadav stated that starting with just 2 cattle, their enterprise has now grown to a herd of 32 animals comprising both cows and buffaloes. Their farm houses prominent breeds such as Sahiwal, Murrah, Jersey, and Gir. The monthly operational expenditure stands at around 50000 rupees, while the monthly revenue reaches between 110000 and 115000 rupees. Through the earnings generated from this business, they managed to construct their house, fund weddings, and handle other household responsibilities. Their family continues to sustain itself through this dairy business. Sharing a message for the younger generation, they advise youth not to sit idle at home, emphasizing that consistent effort always leads to success.
