Renault India has officially confirmed the arrival of the strong-hybrid variant of its popular Duster SUV by releasing a teaser alongside the official pricing announcement date. The vehicle's exact prices will be revealed on October 17, 2026. This launch marks a significant shift in the market because the new-generation Duster completely drops the diesel engine option, whereas the success of the previous generation relied heavily on diesel variants.
Saying Goodbye to Diesel and Embracing Hybrid
The teaser released by the company carries a clear message acknowledging the diesel legacy while moving forward. It reads that diesel had a great ride and the hybrid will take it from here, positioning hybrid technology as the direct successor to diesel. The new Duster was originally launched in March 2026 with petrol options only, and the wait for the hybrid version is finally concluding during the festive season.
The E-Tech Strong-Hybrid Technology
The Duster Hybrid is equipped with Renault’s E-Tech strong-hybrid technology, serving as the third powertrain option following the 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines. It pairs a 1,789 cc naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. One is a generator or starter motor producing around 20 hp, while the other is a traction motor generating about 49 hp that drives the wheels directly. The setup draws power from a 1.4 kWh battery pack.
Performance and Efficiency Numbers
The combined output of the system stands at roughly 160 hp and 172 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a multi-mode automatic or an 8-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The system does not require external charging, recovering energy entirely through regenerative braking. Renault claims that up to 80 percent of urban driving can be completed in pure electric mode.
Fuel Savings and Total Driving Range
The hybrid system reduces fuel consumption by up to 40 percent compared to a conventional pure petrol car. The company estimates a combined driving range of around 1,000 kilometers, with official ARAI mileage figures scheduled to be revealed on October 17. This powertrain is expected to become the most efficient option in the entire Duster lineup.
Expected Pricing and Variant Availability
The current petrol Duster ranges from 10.49 lakh to 18.69 lakh (ex-showroom). The hybrid version is expected to carry a price premium, with estimated figures hovering between 19-23 lakh (ex-showroom), though exact pricing will be confirmed at launch. The hybrid setup is likely to be offered in the mid and top-tier trim levels.
Market Demand and Production Status
According to Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President at Renault India, demand for the hybrid has been exceptionally strong, with the entire allocation for 2026 already sold out. Metropolitan markets accounted for 39 percent of the hybrid bookings. The company is currently working on scaling up production, and fresh bookings are expected to reopen following the price announcement, with deliveries anticipated around Diwali.
Interior Features and Modern Equipment
The hybrid variants are expected to carry over all features from the existing Duster lineup, including a panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in, a digital driver display, ventilated front seats, and Level-2 ADAS safety features. Ground clearance and boot space will remain identical to the petrol model. It features a self-charging strong-hybrid setup equipped with a multi-mode system offering 15 operating modes.
