Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh is rapidly establishing itself as an emerging hub for agricultural exports. Local farmers across the region are generating substantial revenue by supplying their harvested crops to international markets. Demand for Mirzapur's locally grown rice and chillies has expanded across international borders, enabling agricultural producers to earn lucrative profits under the guidance of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
Global Demand for Mirzapur Rice and Chillies
Rice and chillies form the core of Mirzapur's agricultural export trade. Currently, Nepal serves as the primary foreign destination for the region's rice shipments, alongside steady demand from various Gulf nations. In the chilli trade, the Seekhar region of Mirzapur plays a dominant role, with Bangladesh emerging as the largest single importer of its chilli produce.
To maintain freshness and supply chain speed for perishable produce destined for the Gulf, exporters utilize air cargo logistics. Shipments of fresh chillies are transported by air directly from the nearby Varanasi airport, ensuring high quality upon arrival in Gulf markets.
APEDA Support and Western Market Expansion Plans
Sharing details regarding the ongoing export initiatives, APEDA official Dev Anand Tripathi highlighted that continuous structured efforts to connect local farmers with overseas markets are delivering tangible economic results. During the previous financial year, agricultural commodity exports originating from Mirzapur crossed the ₹2 crore milestone.
Plans are now underway to scale this trading footprint further. APEDA is working to facilitate market access for Mirzapur produce in European nations and other Western markets. To support this growth, the authority offers active guidance to local growers, assisting them with necessary documentation, certifications, and compliance procedures required for international trade. Farmers seeking to export their agricultural output can directly partner with APEDA to access these global trade channels.
