Indian Railways is taking another big step towards going fully digital. Work that was once handled through paper files and manual procedures is now being shifted entirely online. To make this happen, the railways has built a dedicated web-based platform named Rail Bhoomi, and once it is in place, tasks that were done by hand will become completely digital.
The aim is to make the land acquisition process simpler and faster by digitising it end to end. The Rail Bhoomi platform, built for exactly this purpose, has been developed by CRIS. Earlier, land acquisition in the railways relied on paper files and a manual process that took time. Now the same work will be carried out online through Rail Bhoomi, and all the related information will be available online as well.
Linked to Other Railway Systems
The new platform will not work in isolation. It has been connected with other railway systems such as IRPSM, IPAS and HRMS. The advantage of this link is that information can be exchanged quickly and easily between different departments, so no one has to hunt around for data.
According to Indian Railways, all the major stages of land acquisition can now be completed online. This will bring greater transparency to the work, speed things up, and help cases get settled faster.
Everything at a Glance on a Dashboard
The platform comes with dashboard and MIS report features. Using these, officials can monitor a project's progress, pending cases, compensation status, notifications and set timelines all from one place. The biggest benefit is that people whose land has been acquired can also view their status report easily online.
A Major Step in Railway History
Indian Railways has been steadily updating its systems. From passenger amenities to its internal operations, everything is being made fully online and digital. As part of the same drive, the land acquisition process is now being brought online too, a move being seen as a major step in the history of the railways. Under this system, the complete picture, from identifying the land to the acquisition process and the compensation paid to farmers, will now be available online.
