A new chapter in railway expansion was written in Chhattisgarh as Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off two new train services from the Raipur railway station. The maiden services will run between Raipur and Raoghat, and between Raipur and Kurud, offering immense convenience to daily passengers and long-distance travelers alike. Alongside these rollouts, the Tadoki-Raoghat and Abhanpur-Kurud rail sections were officially inaugurated, marking a significant milestone for the state infrastructure. Additionally, the foundation stone for an electric rail engine maintenance facility was laid in Raipur, which will bolster the operational capacity of the railways in the region.
Connecting the Region to the Rail Network for the First Time Since Independence
The completion of the rail line construction work from Tadoki to Raoghat marks the historic moment when Raoghat has finally been connected to the national railway network for the very first time since India gained independence. This achievement holds special significance for the tribal-dominated hinterlands of Bastar and southern Chhattisgarh. The newly introduced rail links will substantially improve connectivity between these remote areas and the capital city of Raipur, as well as other prominent hubs across the state. Consequently, this development is expected to give a strong impetus to local trade, industrial growth, educational access, healthcare services, employment generation, and the overall regional economy.
The Dalli-Rajhara to Raoghat Rail Project Details
The Dalli-Rajhara to Raoghat rail project stands as one of the most vital infrastructure initiatives in Chhattisgarh. Spanning a total length of approximately 95 kilometers, the project has been executed at an estimated cost of around 1628 crore rupees. With the successful completion of the 17.5-kilometer rail track stretching between Tadoki and Raoghat, seamless rail connectivity to Raoghat has finally been established.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on the Regional Transformation
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the arrival of the first train in Raoghat opens up fresh avenues of development and prosperity for Bastar. He emphasized that wherever the railway reaches, the pace of regional progress accelerates naturally. The new Raipur-Raoghat and Raipur-Kurud train services will script a brand-new success story for the state's development journey.
Abhanpur-Dhamtari Gauge Conversion and Future Expansion
Under the ongoing Abhanpur-Dhamtari gauge conversion project, the conversion of approximately 22 kilometers of rail line from Abhanpur to Kurud has been successfully finalized. This milestone, paired with the launch of the new passenger train service between Raipur and Kurud, has significantly strengthened the local transportation grid. Recalling the past, the Chief Minister noted that a narrow-gauge train service formerly operated between Raipur and Dhamtari. Transforming this route into a broad gauge will offer tremendous travel benefits to the public. He added that once the remaining work from Kurud to Dhamtari is completed, the train service will be extended all the way to Dhamtari.
Modernizing Railway Stations Across the State
Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted that development work is actively underway to upgrade 32 railway stations in Chhattisgarh with modern amenities. Out of these, eight railway stations have already been fully redeveloped and are now operational. Special emphasis has been laid on providing contemporary passenger amenities, improved concourses, and a comfortable environment at these stations to elevate the overall travel experience.
