A minor's simmering rage over a failed attempt to meet his girlfriend spilled into a destructive crime spree across Sakti district. On the night of May 10, the teenager rallied his accomplices and systematically targeted cars parked on roadsides across multiple villages in the Malkharoda and Jaijaipur areas, smashing windows and stealing cash, electronic wire, and stepney tyres. After a painstaking investigation, police have now arrested a total of 6 accused.
Anger Behind a Night of Destruction
Police investigation revealed that the accused, a minor, had gone out that night specifically to meet his girlfriend but was unable to do so. Seething over the failed meeting, he gathered his friends and moved through several villages in the Malkharoda and Jaijaipur areas. Working under cover of darkness, the group systematically picked out cars parked along roadsides, smashed their windows, and made off with cash, electronic wire, and stepney tyres.
Over 20 Cameras and 4,000 Phone Numbers Cracked the Case
With shattered car windows turning up one after another across Malkharoda and Jaijaipur, police initially had no solid leads to work with. Under the direction of Sakti SP Praful Thakur, the Malkharoda police joined forces with the Cyber Cell and devised a fresh investigative strategy. The team scoured footage from more than 20 CCTV cameras and used a tower dump analysis to scrutinise approximately 4,000 mobile phone numbers. The sustained effort finally paid off, and the accused were identified.
One Accused Nabbed at Railway Station While Fleeing
One of the accused was caught at Kharsia railway station at the very moment he was attempting to flee to Delhi. SP Praful Thakur noted that in the initial round of questioning the accused had not disclosed anything, which led the team to restart the investigation from scratch. Four of those arrested are residents of village Sukhda. One of them had been living in Delhi since childhood and had returned to visit his family. Previous cases had already been registered against him.

Based on complaints filed by victims, a total of 11 cases were registered: 6 in Malkharoda and 5 in Jaijaipur. Following the arrests, police took out a procession of the accused through the area. The IG has announced a cash reward for the team that successfully cracked the case.
