A deeply tragic incident unfolded in the Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, where four members of the same family lost their lives after drowning in the Ram Saraswatipur Ghat of the Run River. The heart-wrenching mishap has cast a pall of gloom over the entire region. According to police officials, the unfortunate accident took place within the jurisdiction of the Bishrampur police station area, where the family had gone to bathe.
Family Visit from Bihar Ends in Tragedy
Police authorities identified the deceased as 45-year-old Vivek Kumar Singh, his son Abhijit Singh (20), Gopal Krishan (13), and Krishan Gopal (15). Vivek Kumar, a resident of Patna in Bihar, was visiting his wife in Chandrapur village under the Bishrampur area of Surajpur district. Accompanying them were his wife's sister's two sons, who hailed from Katihar in Bihar. All four individuals had headed down to the Ram Saraswatipur Ghat to take a bath in the river when the catastrophe struck.
Desperate Rescue Attempt Fails
Police officials stated that the three younger boys ventured into deep waters and began to struggle as they started drowning. Seeing his children and relatives in mortal peril, Vivek Kumar immediately jumped into the river to save them. Despite his frantic efforts, he was unable to pull them to safety and was ultimately pulled under by the deep water himself. Upon receiving word of the incident, local police rushed to the scene and summoned expert divers from the Home Guards. The bodies of all four victims were subsequently recovered from the water. Police have registered a formal case and ongoing investigations into the matter are underway.
Chief Minister Announces Financial Assistance
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed profound grief over the devastating incident. In a post on the social media platform X, he stated that orders have been issued to provide financial assistance to the affected family under the provisions of RBC 6-4 in accordance with state government norms. He offered prayers for the departed souls to find a place at the feet of the Almighty and for strength to the bereaved family members to bear this immense grief.
