A major relief update has emerged for the residents of Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh following the severe disruption of railway operations caused by floods and natural calamities. Devastating floods had struck the region on September 23 and 24, bringing all train movements originating from Jagdalpur to a complete standstill. Following intensive restoration efforts by railway personnel, significant improvements have been made, and the administration has successfully repaired and reorganized three kilometers of uprooted tracks. To ensure safety, freight operations have been cleared to resume, though passenger train services remain suspended for now as a precautionary measure.
Repairing a 40-Foot Deep Trench
Heavy rainfall in the Chatriput-Malliguda sector of the Rayagada division triggered a massive landslide, creating an alarming 40-foot deep trench directly beneath the railway tracks. This major disruption severed Bastar lifeline completely, halting the operations of all five trains connecting Jagdalpur to other states.
Coordinated Efforts Lead to Track Restoration
The restoration of the rail route exactly one month after the incident has brought immense relief to the people of Bastar. Following the landslide, engineering, electrical signal, and telecommunication teams from the East Coast Railway worked round the clock to rebuild the rail corridor.
Passenger Services Await Rigorous Safety Checks
As soon as the tracks were relaid, the railways permitted the slow-speed movement of freight trains under strict security monitoring. Senior principal engineers and the Rayagada division rail management personally oversaw the operations at the site. The railway administration clarified that before restoring passenger trains, mandatory safety inspections of the tracks and infrastructure, along with all necessary approvals, must be completed.
