Playing at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the left-hander established the new benchmark the moment he struck his 33rd run of the innings, surpassing previous milestones set by some of the most aggressive batters in modern cricket.
Surpassing Suryakumar Yadav's Global Benchmark
Prior to this landmark innings, the world record was held by Suryakumar Yadav, who had crossed the 2,000-run milestone in 1,164 balls. By achieving the feat in fewer deliveries, Abhishek Sharma claimed the top spot worldwide, resetting the benchmark for scoring speed over an extended career sample in international cricket's shortest format.

The leaderboard for fastest 2,000 T20I runs by balls faced features elite power-hitters across international cricket. Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch reached the total in 1,283 deliveries, while his compatriot Glenn Maxwell accomplished it in 1,304 balls. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya took 1,390 deliveries to complete his milestone, and New Zealand's Tim Seifert touched the 2,000-run mark in 1,395 balls.
