A major transnational narcotics trafficking operation was dismantled in Assam after enforcement officers intercepted two commercial vehicles and confiscated an enormous consignment of synthetic drugs. The Narcotics Control Bureau unit in Guwahati acted on specific intelligence to seize 53.937 kilograms of Methamphetamine and WY tablets, which carry an estimated illicit market value of approximately Rs 43 crore. Authorities suspect that the seized contraband originated across the border in Myanmar, and two individuals transporting the drugs were taken into custody on the spot.
Specially Fabricated Fuel Tank Cavities Uncovered
Acting on actionable intelligence, agency officers intercepted two heavy goods trucks on October 6 and initiated thorough, methodical inspections. A detailed physical examination revealed that both vehicles had undergone covert structural modifications. The diesel tanks contained specially fabricated hidden compartments specifically engineered to transport commercial quantities of illicit substances past highway checkpoints and security inspections without detection. Enforcement teams carefully extracted the contraband from the concealed chambers before seizing both vehicles.
Two Manipur Residents Arrested as Supply Chain Probe Expands
The two drivers arrested at the scene have been identified as residents of Bishnupur district in Manipur. Following their immediate detention, investigators launched a wider probe into the logistics chain behind the consignment. The agency noted that this intercept successfully interrupted a massive distribution operation. Focus has now shifted towards unmasking the entire logistical framework, encompassing overseas suppliers, domestic consignees, syndicates providing capital, fleet operators, ground handlers, and secondary associates, aiming to dismantle the syndicate from end to end.
Six Fugitives Nabbed Across Multiple States
In a parallel law enforcement effort executed under a specialized fortnight-long drive against evaders in pending narcotics cases, officials apprehended six key wanted individuals. Among the arrested fugitives, two belong to Assam, while the remaining four hail individually from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura. The bureau highlighted these detentions as a vital stride toward holding absconders accountable regardless of interstate jurisdictions, demonstrating sustained follow-up in long-standing legal proceedings under the NDPS framework.
Inter-Agency Collaboration Across the Northeastern Frontier
Enforcement strategy across Assam and the wider northeastern region prioritizes dismantling complete operations rather than stopping isolated couriers. Targeting the whole architecture involves identifying overseas sourcing points, transit conduits, funding pipelines, logistics facilitators, retail distributors, and senior coordinators. Because the narcotics trade operates as a structured transnational enterprise, the agency maintains structured operational coordination and intelligence exchange with state police forces, ANTFS, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, SSB, Customs, DRI, NIA, and ED to neutralize the financial and transport networks supporting these criminal rings.
