Australia's women's cricket team etched a new chapter in the sport's history by crushing England in the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, sealing the title for a seventh time. The win once again underlined Australia's dominance in women's T20 cricket and shattered the hosts' hopes of becoming world champions for a second time.

England post 150 after batting first

Batting first in the final, England finished their 20 overs at 150 for the loss of 4 wickets. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings with a fine half century, guiding her side to a respectable total on the big occasion. None of the other England batters, however, could convert their starts into big scores, and that shortfall eventually cost the team the match.

Beth Mooney's blazing knock seals the chase

Chasing 151 for victory, Australia took control from the outset and wrapped up the target in just 17.2 overs while losing only 3 wickets. Wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney played the innings of the match, smashing 64 runs off 49 balls studded with 10 boundaries to put the result beyond doubt. At the other end, Phoebe Litchfield played a crucial supporting hand of 48 runs. The pair added 100 runs together for the second wicket, the third century stand in the history of Women's T20 World Cup finals. Before this, Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney had put on 115 runs for the first wicket in the final of the 2020 T20 World Cup. The record for the biggest partnership in a T20 World Cup final still belongs to West Indies' Hayley Matthews and Sara Taylor, who added 120 runs for the first wicket in the 2016 final.

Unbeaten under new captain Sophie Molineux

Australia looked in ominous form through the entire tournament. Under new captain Sophie Molineux, the side did not lose a single match on its way to the title. In the semifinal, Australia beat a strong West Indies side to keep its winning streak alive and book a final berth. In the summit clash, the team thrashed hosts England by 8 wickets to lift the trophy once again. Australia had previously won the title in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023, taking its overall tally to seven titles.

Teams with the most Women's T20 World Cup titles

  • Australia - 7
  • England - 1
  • New Zealand - 1
  • West Indies - 1

The list makes it clear that Australia's grip on the Women's T20 World Cup has been far stronger than any other side, while England, New Zealand and West Indies have each managed to win the title just once so far.
