The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a change of venue for the final of the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2026-27 season. The summit clash, originally scheduled to take place at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, will now be hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Scheduled from September 6 to September 10, the relocation aims to allow a larger number of spectators to experience the marquee domestic match live from the stands.
Ensuring Fan Attendance for Marquee Domestic Clash
Explaining the rationale behind the shift, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia highlighted that the Centre of Excellence facility in Bengaluru has limitations regarding spectator capacity. He emphasized that the Duleep Trophy remains a cornerstone of India's first-class domestic calendar, consistently featuring high-caliber red-ball cricket. Recognizing the significance of the event, the board deemed it appropriate to move the final to a full-fledged stadium environment where cricket enthusiasts could attend in strength.
Tournament Schedule and Revival of Zonal Format
While the final moves to Chennai, all other matches of the tournament will proceed as per the original schedule at the CoE in Bengaluru starting August 23. The opening day will see East Zone clash with North East Zone, while North Zone takes on West Zone. The 2026-27 edition marks the return of the traditional zonal structure, featuring six teams: Central Zone, South Zone, East Zone, West Zone, North Zone, and North East Zone.
Comprehensive Broadcast and Live Streaming Plan
To enhance accessibility for fans, the BCCI has expanded the broadcast footprint for this edition. Live streaming will be made available for every match across the tournament. Furthermore, television viewers can catch the live broadcast of selected marquee fixtures, including one quarterfinal, one semifinal, and the final match.
