External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced a major infrastructure decision approved by the Union Cabinet on social media platform X. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet has greenlit four multitracking railway projects with an estimated investment of Rs 9,450 crore. The initiative aims to significantly enhance capacity, reduce congestion, and improve train connectivity across key regional corridors in India.
Coverage Across Four States and Eight Districts
The approved railway projects encompass a total length of 410 kilometres, spanning eight districts across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Scheduled for completion by 2030-31, the multitracking expansion will streamline both passenger and freight traffic. By boosting line capacity along heavily utilized routes, the project will help lower logistics costs and facilitate faster movement of essential commodities.
Economic Impact and Infrastructure Modernization
The strategic investment is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities during construction and operation. Increasing tracking infrastructure aligns with ongoing national efforts to modernize India transport network, enhancing supply chain efficiency for agricultural and industrial hubs operating within these eastern and southern coastal states.
Public Reaction
Public response to the announcement reflected both optimism and demands for service quality. While many social media users hailed the projects as a crucial driver for regional economic growth, others urged authorities to prioritize fundamental passenger amenities such as clean drinking water at stations, hygienic food, and improved train sanitation.
