England have confirmed a 17-player squad for their five-match T20 series against India, which gets underway on July 1 with Harry Brook captaining the side. The headline selection is allrounder James Coles, who receives his first senior England call-up, while Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood have all been recalled after being left out of the 2026 T20 World Cup squad.
James Coles Steps Up to the Senior Stage
England Men's chief selector Marcus North spoke about the decision to hand Coles his maiden international opportunity:
James Coles is an exciting cricketer who has earned this opportunity through hard work. His performances over the last 12 months for England Lions and in T20 competitions both home and abroad have made him deserving of a place in the squad. We have selected a larger squad to give us the flexibility we need, given that this series follows immediately after the Test series against New Zealand.
Three Recalled, Two Ruled Out Through Injury
Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood have all been brought back into the England setup after their absence from the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton will play no part in the series after being ruled out through injury. Marcus North also addressed the reason for naming a notably large group of 17 players, pointing to the tight scheduling that places this India series immediately after a Test series against New Zealand, making depth and flexibility essential for the management team.
