Experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami has once again made a strong statement regarding his potential return to the Indian team following an impressive domestic outing. Representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy match against Delhi, Shami delivered a stellar bowling spell where he claimed 4 wickets while conceding just 30 runs in 17.3 overs. Demonstrating exceptional control, he bowled 9 maiden overs during the spell, restricting the entire Delhi batting lineup to a total of 240 runs.
Addressing fitness queries and ongoing discussions
At the close of the day's play after taking four wickets, the fast bowler was questioned by journalists regarding his current fitness status. Shami offered a candid response to the inquiries, stating that his physical condition is visible for everyone to witness. Emphasizing that his own words carry little weight compared to reality, he noted that he is actively playing on the field and utilizing every opportunity presented to him wherever he gets the chance to play.
Voicing frustration over national selection
Beyond the fitness questions, Shami was also pressed on why he continues to be overlooked for national selection despite delivering consistent performances in domestic cricket. In a sharp jibe directed at the selectors, he remarked that perhaps he is simply not a good bowler, which might be the reason behind the snub. His remarks highlight the deep disappointment he feels regarding his current status and non-selection for the Indian team.
Welcoming Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return
In addition to his own situation, Shami expressed happiness over fellow fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar making a return to the international setup after a gap of four years. Commenting on the milestone, Shami stated that the return should have happened much sooner. He mentioned that while Bhuvneshwar is not someone who talks much, his talent should not have been held back for long periods. He added that the seasoned pacer has performed consistently in the IPL and fully deserved his place back.
