A fresh update has emerged regarding the much-anticipated cricket series between India and Bangladesh, with the details being shared by Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal. The bilateral series, comprising three One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 matches, was originally scheduled to take place in August and September of this year. However, due to political tensions and an uncertain environment, the tour had been placed under a cloud of doubt. Despite these challenges, Tamim Iqbal has firmly clarified that the series has not been completely called off, meaning that the prospect of the matches taking place remains very much alive. Previously as well, Tamim Iqbal had issued a significant statement regarding this series.
Hosting Plans and the Search for a New Window
Bangladesh was slated to host India for the full limited-overs assignment consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is. Addressing this situation, Tamim Iqbal stated that both the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India are entirely eager to see the series materialize. He revealed that both cricket governing bodies are actively collaborating to find a suitable new window in the future. Tamim's remarks make it abundantly clear that the matches will no longer take place during the initially designated August-September window and have instead been pushed back for a later date.
Continuous Dialogue Between Both Boards
While speaking on the sports platform 'Not Out Noman', Tamim Iqbal elaborated on the ongoing discussions surrounding the tour. He emphasized that both the Bangladesh and Indian cricket boards are deeply serious about conducting the series and are working hard to secure an open slot in the calendar. He noted that while the BCB maintains a highly positive outlook, certain factors remain outside their direct control, and as the board president, he must operate within his designated boundaries. Both nations maintain extremely packed cricket calendars, with Bangladesh scheduled for several upcoming assignments and the Indian team facing a rigid timetable. Nevertheless, communication channels between the two boards remain fully open regarding this matter.
Reflecting on the T20 World Cup Absence
Tamim also touched upon Bangladesh's absence from the previous T20 World Cup during the interaction. He expressed his belief that Bangladesh could have handled and negotiated the situation in a much better manner. Bangladesh had opted out of participating in the T20 World Cup by citing security concerns. This tension had further escalated after Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Kolkata Night Riders squad ahead of the 2026 IPL season.
