Apple has rolled out its latest software update for iPhones and iPads, featuring expanded language support, enhanced memory functions, and various security improvements. The fresh release aims to make the virtual assistant smarter while introducing several utility enhancements across supported devices.
Siri AI Expands Language Support and Memory
With the new software package, Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in beta mode. The assistant can now recall details from past conversations to provide relevant answers. The capability to remember user preferences has become a primary focus for developers like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, whose systems excel at recalling user choices.
Beyond its generated suggestions, Siri can pull data from attached photos in messages, calendar event attendees, voicemails, Safari history, and reading lists. Users retain the ability to exclude specific applications from the assistant memory system.
Hardware Support and FaceTime Enhancements
While the foldable iPhone Duo has encountered display-related issues among early buyers, Apple continues adding features through this update. The software brings Apple Pencil support to the foldable device in applications like Notes and Preview. Additionally, users can utilize the Edge Light effect to highlight their faces during video calls.
FaceTime receives several upgrades, including simultaneous streaming via the front and rear cameras through Dual Capture for group calls. Users can also integrate a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner directly into an active call.
The system now prompts users to convert messages into calendar events or reminder items. Furthermore, individuals can edit captions, add comments in shared albums, and view expiration reminders for specific folders.
The Podcast application has also been refreshed to display newly released episodes from followed shows alongside media currently being played.
Sports Multiview and Comprehensive Security Fixes
Apple has introduced Multiview to iPhones, allowing viewers to stream up to four live sports feeds simultaneously on Apple TV. This includes Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the United States, and Friday Night Baseball games during the Major League Baseball season, alongside multiple camera feeds for racing events.
According to the official release documentation, the update packs over 160 security patches. Many of these corrections have been backported to benefit users still running the older iOS 26 software, which Apple notes is active on roughly 80% of devices.
Additionally, a specific vulnerability fix was backported to iOS 18 users. Apple stated this flaw may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against targeted individuals on pre-iOS 27 versions. While this phrasing typically aligns with government spyware or law enforcement forensic tools, the company did not disclose the identities of the attackers.
