Indian pilot Captain Smit Machahar has opened up from his hospital bed to detail the horrifying ordeal that unfolded inside the cockpit of Flydubai flight FZ1073. Speaking in interviews with The National and Sky News Arabia, Captain Machahar exposed how the accused co-pilot, Al-Hammami, plotted to crash the aircraft. The captain noted that had he not mustered his final strength to unlock the cockpit door, the disaster could easily have become another 9/11 for the world. Recalling those chilling moments, he explained that the co-pilot had requested permission to offer prayers inside the cockpit. Out of respect, the captain granted the request and kept his complete focus on flying the plane.
A Sudden Sucker Punch and the Descent into Chaos
Captain Machahar stated that he was fully occupied with his duties and, due to professional courtesy, did not turn around to look back. Suddenly, he felt a massive, heavy blow to the back of his head. While he remained unsure of the exact heavy object used, the strike was so severe that he was instantly left half-dead, repeatedly drifting in and out of consciousness. Despite lying face down and soaked in blood, a fierce survival instinct ignited within him to stay alive and protect the passengers. The aircraft was nose-diving rapidly, but he resolved to fight rather than accept defeat.

How Opening the Cockpit Door Saved Hundreds of Lives
Summoning all his remaining energy, Captain Machahar managed to disengage the cockpit lock. The moment the door opened, passengers rushed inside and overpowered the rogue co-pilot. The captain hailed his fellow relief pilot as a true hero for taking control of the aircraft amidst the chaotic situation. He expressed lifelong gratitude for how his colleague handled the crisis and safely landed the plane. In addition, a dentist recounting a harrowing 45-minute ordeal noted that Captain Machahar's pulse had nearly faded during the emergency before the situation was brought under control.
Al-Hammami's Background and High-Level Recognition
Investigations have revealed that the accused co-pilot Al-Hammami managed to secure employment with Flydubai despite being previously banned by Oman Air. He deliberately chose a flight heading to Tel Aviv to execute his crash conspiracy. Had he succeeded, hundreds of innocent lives on board and on the ground would have perished. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently had a lengthy phone conversation with Captain Machahar, praising his unmatched courage and noting that his presence of mind averted another 9/11 tragedy. Discussions are also underway by the governments of India and Israel to confer top civilian and gallantry honors upon Captain Machahar for his exceptional bravery.
